I'm going to do a full album review soon.
I'm having a good listen and getting to grips with each track to give my honest opinion. The album is very pleasing to the ear so far and there are some nice mid temp tracks that i can't stop playing. As i predicted MC wouldn't let me down and i was right.
Although Mariah's eleventh studio album 'E=MC²' is a good one, for me personally it doesn't have shit on some of her older stuff. She enlisted the best producers and writers for this project which include her partner in crime Jermaine Dupri, Stargate, Brian Michael Cox, Scott Scorch & Swizz beatz & Danja plus more! The lyrical content is fun but has been said before a million times. Mariah has always written and produced her own material but i feel like she doesn't capture the message in the songs like she used to. I've always been MC's biggest fan of her songwriting and its not that she's done a bad job this time round, it just doesn't touch me as much. If you're expecting to hear MC blow like she does on such classics like 'Butterfly', 'My All', Hero' or 'Anytime You Need A Friend' and so on, then you may be a tad disappointed.
Vocally Mariah doesn't bring it like she once did or could. I don't know what Mimi's been doing but i've got a feeling shes damaged her voice some how and she finds it hard to sing like she once did which has been evident in her recent performances of her (18th #1) single 'Touch My Body'.
The album has a consistant flow of smooth R&B/POP and it flows together nicely. If you're looking for a hot, laid back album to jam to all summer this is definately the one for you. But i do think to myself... If this was a J-Lo album would we give a shit about it? Well the answer is no and that is partly because Jenny from the block can't sing for shit, but i did mean song wise.
The stand out tracks that i'm really feeling right now are:
Cruise Control,
This has a soft Reggae feeling to it which also see's Mariah singing with a Jamaican accent. Its fun, light and something i can see myself blasting from my car all summer. The song also features the legendary Bob Marley's son Damian Marley.
I Stay In Love
This song is a beautiful R&B ballad which had Mariah written all over it with her trademark Bone Thugs N Harmony type melodies. The song is the same old story... She can't let go of her man!
Bye Bye
Another R&B ballad, simple and not much to it with a nice message. This song is for everybody who has lost somebody. There really isn't much i can say about this song apart from its catchy and once it catches it will be stuck in your head!
Thanx 4 Nothin'
Another slow jam which has a smooth melody... The song reminds me at times of 'Don't Forget About Us' Again, you can't go wrong with this song. Its very catchy
Migrate
This song is like a virus... its very infectious! The song features T-Pain with his vocoded to death vocals but it all adds to the song so i aint mad! The song opens with MC singing the punch line of the music, very clever.
And of course...
Touch My Body
Which is fun and catchy... You know the song so theres no need for me to talk about it.
I will continue my review soon... when i have an opinion on the other tracks.
Over all i give this album a
4/5
